
Deacon Morris Joseph, Sr. was born on December 5, 1954, to James Joseph and Delcie D. Joseph in Vinton, Louisiana. He was raised in Vinton where he attended Smyrna COGIC. Morris was blessed with so many God given talents. He was a great cook; he loved playing the guitar and he was a very good artist. Morris was a good basketball player in which he was called “Big Mo”. He played basketball for the “Flyers” when he was in Germany, as he was enlisted in the U.S. Army for six years. He was a very smart man, he attended Huston Tillotson, Austin. He majored in Psychology. Morris worked for forty-eight years for the U.S. Postal Service.
Morris was very outgoing. He loved going to the YMCA, enjoying the Sauna, playing golf imitating his swings like Tiger Woods. He loved watching the news while eating his favorite Bluebell strawberry ice cream and drinking orange Fanta.
Deacon Morris loved reading the Bible and he was a great teacher. He helped to rear his younger siblings. On January 11, 1997, he married Laverne Bernice Watson. God blessed them to be married for twenty-nine years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Laverne Bernice Joseph; two daughters, Lykendria Walker (Coy), Andrianique Watson (Ricci Jackson); two sons, Richard Netherly, Jr. (Kasarah) and Morris Joseph Jr.; brothers, Matthew Joseph Sr. (Sandra); Mark Dorsey; and Alonzo Joseph (Elaine); sisters, Camilla Dorsey and Felicia Joseph; and his aunt and godmother, Loretta Dorsey.
He also leaves to cherish his loving memories are his grandchildren who he loved so dearly. They were the apple of his heart, Andre, Ja’laycia, Kaiden, Chloe, Richard III, Kelani, Colton, Caislynn, and Connor. His godchildren, Emanuel Shelton, Da’Jhana Skinner; and Isaiah Chatman. He also leaves to cherish his memories his brothers and sister-in-law, nieces, and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Morris is preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph and Delcie D. Joseph; brothers, James Joseph Jr., Billy James White, Michael Joseph, Mitchell Joseph, and Malcolm Joseph; and sister, Jacquela Lassien.
A gathering of Deacon Joseph’s family and friends will be 9:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Starlight Church of God in Christ, 2800 Bob Hall Road, Orange, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His interment will follow at Edgerly Cemetery, Vinton, Louisiana.
