Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center is pleased to announce the 31st Annual Community Trash-Off on Saturday, February 28, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The presenting sponsor of this event is Dow. Participants are encouraged to organize their teams and complete free online registration at shangrilagardens.org.
Families, local organizations and community members of all ages are invited to take part in this beautification initiative focused directly on the neighborhoods and waterways of Orange, West Orange and Pinehurst.
“Joining the Annual Community Trash-Off is one of the most empowering and meaningful opportunities we have to show up for one another as a community. Whether we are picking up litter alongside co-workers, classmates or family members, we are modeling teamwork, empathy and civic duty for our children and hopefully encouraging residents to take action to improve the environment in which we all live,” said Amara Townsend, Volunteer Services Coordinator at Shangri La Gardens.
The morning of Community Trash-Off begins at the City of Orange Riverside Pavilion, located at 709 Simmons Drive, where teams will gather to prepare for an exciting day ahead. Teams will then disperse to their clean-up locations. The event will culminate with a free lunch to celebrate the efforts and service of all participants.
“Trash-Off isn’t just for one day. It can be once a week, month or each quarter. Feeling the immediate pride and seeing the visible transformation of the clean street you are now glad to travel each day as you go for a walk or commute to work reinforces the belief that each of us is part of the solution. Imagine the problems we can solve together,” said Townsend.
Shangri La Gardens proudly presents Community Trash-Off through their ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, conservation and the Orange community. Community Trash-Off is made possible through generous sponsorship and support from Dow.
“My favorite part of this event is when I see the families bring their children to participate. By teaching the next generation to take care of our community, we are building a cleaner, brighter future for everyone. Dow is proud to support this amazing effort again this year,” said Christina Babcock, Public Affairs & Special Projects Leader at Dow.
Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center is located at 2111 West Park Avenue in Orange, Texas. For more information about Community Trash-Off, please visit shangrilagardens.org.
