The driver of a pickup truck that led police on a high-speed chase from Orange to Bridge City had to be subdued with a Taser shock gun early Thursday morning. Orange police report the Dodge Ram pickup hit a Dodge Avenger sedan on MacArthur Drive.
Officer L.T. Holland with the Orange Police Department reported he was in his patrol car in the parking lot of a business in the 2300 block of MacArthur Drive at 1:26 a.m. Thursday. He heard tires squealing and saw a pickup truck slide to a stop. The front of the truck was facing north on the highway which runs east to west.
Officer Holland said he went to check on the driver but the truck sped off. The officer followed and even with the emergency lights on the patrol car, the truck did not stop.
The truck went up to 100 mph and ran red lights on MacArthur, which becomes Highway 87. A deputy from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office joined the chase at FM 1006. Officer Holland said Bridge City police stopped the truck at the end of the Cow Bayou Bridge.
The driver of the truck was uncooperative and the sheriff’s deputy used a Taser to subdue the man.
Officer Holland arrested 25-year-old Ryan Lafont of Port Arthur for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with hitting the car. Lafont will also face a charge of evading arrest.
