
On Friday, March 20, 2026, at 7:58 p.m., the Newton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a pursuit entering Newton County by Texas DPS on FM 363. During the pursuit, the suspect turned southbound onto State Highway 87 from Bleakwood and ultimately avoided capture by law enforcement.
At approximately 8:27 p.m., Sergeant Barry Scarborough was patrolling State Highway 87 when he observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle involved in the earlier pursuit. Sergeant Scarborough attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which point the suspect initiated another pursuit, traveling southbound on SH 87 into Orange County. The pursuit ultimately ended up on IH-10 westbound.
The suspect continued to evade numerous law enforcement agencies in Orange County until a Texas DPS trooper utilized a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver) on the vehicle, safely bringing the pursuit to an end on Interstate 10 in Vidor. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
