Home remodeling projects are popular in Orange this summer, according to building permits issued in May by the City of Orange. Seven permits for residential remodeling were issued for a total of $201,675. The projects include one in the Lindenwood subdivision valued at $65,000, another $65,000 project in the Woodmont addition, a $25,000 bathroom remodeling in the Hillbrook subdivision, and a $25,000 refurbishing in the 1200 block of Link Avenue. A house in the Huntsman subdivision is getting a new garage valued at $10,500. In addition, three houses are getting new roofs worth a total of $18,507. Permits for a total of $5,800 were issued for residential concrete with one as a slab for a hot tub area. Nine residences had new air conditioning systems installed for a total of $49,000. Five of those houses are new ones being constructed in Cypresswood subdivision off Highway 87 South. Two permits were issued for fences with one a new wooden fence and the other the addition of a gate. The value is $2,700. A new hurricane replacement house worth $111,788 is being built in the 1300 block of Sholars Avenue.
The largest project on the commercial side of building permits went to the James Hope Academic Center, 6928 Highway 87 North. The center is getting a $30,000 portable building for a snow cone stand. A permit for a multi-family residence was issued to the International apartments on Meeks Drive for $7,600 worth of reconstruction for an apartment that burned. A business on DuPont Drive got a permit for a $14,850 fence and Parlours on 911 Green Avenue got a new air-conditioning system valued at about $9,000.
