
Brenda Lawson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, at the age of 81. She was born on September 6, 1944.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Burial will be at Stephenson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
Brenda dedicated 30 years of her life to teaching kindergarten, nurturing countless children who felt like her own. She was a patient and gracious woman who never complained about anything, embodying a spirit of quiet strength and unwavering love. Beyond her professional life, Brenda found joy in gardening and traveling to racetracks across the country with her devoted husband, James. Known affectionately as “Memaw” to her grandchildren and “Nonnie” to her nieces and nephews, Brenda’s loving nature touched everyone she met. She was a faithful member of Orangefield Baptist Church. Brenda is survived by her loving spouse of 48 years, James Lawson; her sons, Buddy Hanks and wife, Ramona, and Rodney Hanks; her cherished grandchildren, Ashlynn Howard and husband, Steven, and Robby Hanks; and her adored great-grandchildren, Lyra Howard and Marion Howard. She also leaves behind her sister, Jimmie Lea Simmons and husband, Mark, along with numerous other loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will deeply miss her gentle presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Stephens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Hanks, Buddy Hanks, Andrew Morris, Kenneth Spiller, Davis Gauthier, David McElhaney.
