It’s been an exciting week for Bridge City playoff basketball teams and their fans. For the second time this week both played on the same night and advanced. The cheerleaders, administrators, and school board members were split into two teams so both games would be covered and supported.
Thursday the girls played Madisonville at C.E. King High School in the fourth round for a chance to advance to the State Semi-finals for the second straight year.
BC won 64-47 as they held the lead for most of the game. Mia Sterling had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kaylee Britten had 14 points, Aubrey Small 11 and Kenlee Putnam 10. Rylee Hebert had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
BC lives by the mantra “All Gas, No Brakes” and despite an 18 point lead in the fourth quarter, they were still pressing and running the break. Exactly like Coach Larry Sterling wants it. “Our pressure I think got to them in the second half. They started making more turnovers which lead to easy baskets for us.”
The Lady Cards (33-2) will play the winner of Friday’s Region IV Final between Carrizo Springs and Fredericksburg. Madisonville ends the season 20-14.

Coach Andrew Daspit’s Cards played Booker T. Washington at Barbers Hill. BC was down by as many as 10 in the first half but continued to chip away until they had the exact same lead as the girls did at the half, 24-22.
The Cardinals (25-9) took charge in the second half and claimed victory 71-62 over the Eagles (28-8) to move on to play the winner between Navasota (28-3) and Lampasas (28-8) in the third round. They’ll play Friday at Thrall HS.
Senior Braydon Denison lead the way with 18pts/8 rbs, post Hunter Silveira 15 pts/14 rbs, freshman Jiraiya Jennings 13 pts, Aaden Bush 12 pts/ 6 asts and Abraham Munguia 9 pts/8 asts.
