Three members of the City Council in Bridge City were sworn in on Tuesday. Appointments were made for several of the council members to serve on committees.
Tammi Fisette and Terri Gauthier received their oaths of office. Both will be starting their fourth terms on the council.
A newcomer to the council has a familiar name. Aaron Roccaforte was sworn in to serve in Place 1. His father Kirk Roccaforte served on the City Council and as the mayor of Bridge City for many years before being elected to be the Precinct 3 County Commissioner.
Aaron Roccaforte is hitting the ground running. He accepted the appointment to be the Mayor Pro Tem at his first meeting. Roccaforte and Fisette were appointed to the City Collective Bargaining Committee for the contract negotiations with the Bridge City Police Association.
Danny Harrington was appointed to serve as the City Council liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Harrington has experience serving on that commission.

Texas Game Warden Raj Ataya with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife updated those attending the meeting on water safety regulations. Ataya reported there were 286 boat accidents in Texas during 2020 with 53 of those being fatal resulting in 55 deaths.
Ataya warned about wake violations which mostly got warnings last year, but will now earn the violator a ticket this year. He also cautioned about boating while intoxicated which can lead to arrests just like drinking and driving violations in an automobile. “We will be on the water patrolling like never before,” he said.
Tuesday’s meeting was postponed a week because of the municipal election held on Saturday, May 1. The next scheduled meeting of the City Council in Bridge City will be Tuesday, May 18, at the City Hall on Rachal Avenue. A workshop at 5:30 PM will precede the regular meeting.
