Our beloved Mom and Grandma, Audrey Jean Groff, age 96, of Hemphill, TX went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Her heart beat strong until she took her final breath, a tribute to the powerful love she gave to everyone.
Audrey has lived a life of service to her community, her church, and her family. She received her child development degree while raising her five children (and husband) and went on to teach Sunday School at her church. She was also a founder of United Christian Services in Hemphill and devoted endless time helping families and seniors in urgent need.
A prayer warrior with apron strings, she would spend hours in the kitchen cooking for her family and doting on her grandchildren, spoiling them with too many snickerdoodles. Her kitchen was a place of endless love, endless prayer, and endless messes made by her grandchildren “helping” grandma bake those cookies. But she loved the messes and would say “a messy kitchen is a happy kitchen”. She gathered many of her recipes and in 1995, published a cookbook titled: Cooking with a Pinch of This and a Dab of That.
Audrey’s legacy lives on through her passion and love of reading. This legacy will be passed on through generations because of her example to her children and grandchildren and the numerous trips to the library.
Our Grandma, Our Mom, Our Beacon will be missed immeasurably, but we take comfort in knowing she is in the arms of her truest love, Jesus. And she was welcomed into his Kingdom by so many whom she loved in this life and had passed on, waiting for her.
She was preceded in death by her son: Stephen Groff; her brother: Wayne; her sister: Lorella; and her parents: Harold and Lida Tapp. In addition, her beloved and spoiled husband of 65 years was waiting for her with open arms.
Audrey is survived by her sisters: Edith and Joyce; her children: Kenneth, Jane, Linda, Brent, Sue Groff and Agnes Groff; her grandchildren: Melisa, David, Amy, Heather, Joe, Jamie, Jessica, Sarah, Emily, Stephen Jr., and Dwayne; great-grandchildren and even a great-great grandbaby.
We were so blessed to have you, to know your love and to pass on your love. We love you.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
