Orange police Wednesday made a third drug bust in the 1000 block of Orange Avenue. A woman was arrested for possession of ecstasy (MDMA), and a man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.
The block at Orange Avenue and Tenth Street is in the Old Orange Historic District near century-old restored houses. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said neighbors had made complaints about possible drug dealing at a house.
“We try to give extra attention to those areas,” he said.
The stop Wednesday. was made about 12:30 p.m. Captain Enmon said an officer patroling in the area saw what appeared to be a drug transaction and stopped the vehicle.
According to the report from Sergeant J.C. Steele, the woman driving did not have a driver’s license. During a search, he found ecstacy. Also, a man in the back seat had what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine.
28-year-old Ashlee Desiree Rainwater and 35-year-old Marcus Dewayne Turner were arrested and face charges of possession of a controlled substance.
Some students at Little Cypress Junior High Wednesday were playing around with funny money. Orange police went to the campus about 12:20 p.m. after a call that students had counterfeit $100 bills. Police had recently warned people to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills.
Captain Enmon said the money was fake, but clearly marked as for play and “not legal tender.” He said the bills might be able to pass “if you gave it to a sleepy clerk at 3 o’clock in the morning.”
A woman giving a man a ride lost her van. She told Orange police about midnight Wednesday the man drove off when she stopped for gas at a convenience store at Northway Shopping Center. The woman did not know the man before giving him the ride. The vehicle is a 2001 gold Chevrolet van. e(
