The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a crash on state Highway 62, near Tulane, that occurred early Sunday morning, October 29, 2023.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 4 a.m., a 2012 Hyundai Tucson was traveling south, followed by a 2017 Ford F-250, while a 2016 Buick Lacrosse was traveling north. It is reported that the driver of the Hyundai took evasive action to the right and entered the west ditch to avoid striking a coyote that entered the roadway. The Hyundai then struck an electrical pole, causing it to fall. When the electrical line fell, it struck the Ford, causing damage to its windshield. The Buick then struck the powerline as it was stretched across the road, causing damage to its front end.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 26-year-old Gracie Peltier of Orange, was not injured.
The driver of the Ford, identified as 67-year-old Mark Stross of Orange, was not injured.
The driver of the Buick and two passengers, were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. The driver is identified as 27-year-old Stanley Perkins of Beaumont.
More than 400 Entergy customers were left without power and Hwy. 62 was still shutdown at 8am as repairs are being made. Update: power was back on at 10am
