Welcome to The Juice and we start this column with some bittersweet news. As we told you in our last Juice the KOGT building on Meeks is being sold and we are in the process of moving out. No it’s not another station moving in.
Over time we’ve had a number of people ask to come in and take a picture behind the mic or by our signs so here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to have a Farewell Open House on Wednesday, June 3 from 9a-1p. We’re going to give a lot of things away, take pictures, tell stories, and you can come and go as you please. We appreciate our listeners and supporters and we look forward to seeing you. Please tell anyone you know that listened to KOGT about our Open House.

I have found an interesting piece of KOGT memorabilia. There are people known as DX’ers and their hobby is using souped-up radios and antennas to pull up stations from around the world. They would then notify the stations by postcard where they were listening from and what they heard at the time to verify it was the truth. It’s funny to note that when I was a kid and got sent to my room I would do the same thing and I kept the info in a spiral notebook. If I only knew back then it was a hobby instead of a punishment.
Anyway I found a “telegram” from Western Union from 1947 when KOGT was running a test pattern before officially going on air in 1948. They would play some music and then you’d hear something like, “you’re listening to a test signal from KOGT Radio, located at 5304 Meeks Drive in Orange, Texas.” The telegram was from NEW ZEALAND.
Of course back then you didn’t have all of the interference that you do now.

Sports News – Former Bridge City pole vaulter Morgan Louvier set the new school record at Lamar with a vault of 12-.05 ft. Overall she was fifth at the SLC Outdoor Championships.
2001 LCM Grad Josh Richards coached the Brewer Bears to their first State Championship appearance. Unfortunately they had a 3-0 and lost 6-5 to nationally ranked Lake Creek out of Montgomery.
LCM grad Chris Buechner had his Kingwood Park team back in the 5AD2 Semifinals for the second year but came up short against Sharyland.
I realize the times have changed but I was really disappointed to hear Coach Will Davis was leaving Lamar for Houston two days after the Cards earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Why couldn’t that have waited until the tournament was over? Either way, Lamar had a 5-0 lead against the Aggies and couldn’t hold on to it.
Orangefield grad Jason Bodin is pitching for Oklahoma and the Sooners are still in the playoffs after winning the Atlanta Regional with a walk-off win against No.2 Georgia Tech. Bodin threw 2.2 innings, giving up 2 runs in 4 hits with 3K’s and a walk. They will play Kansas in the Super Regionals.
Chad Dallas’ name has been mentioned as a possible call-up for his major league debut with Toronto because of injuries on the big league team. Many thought that would be May 28. But after further review…
Reporters walked into the locker room before the game and saw Dallas’ nameplate on a locker and soon the word was out that the 25 year old was being called up. It’s been talked about for weeks.
But when manager John Schneider was asked about it, he was unaware and later announced it was a miscommunication by staff and Dallas had not been called up…yet.
