The Bridge City Lady Cardinals got off to a slow start in their bi-district game against Hudson on Monday, but as they have done many times this season, they wear their opponents down with relentless defense and continue to shoot.
Their first bucket didn’t come until 2:40 left in the first on a three by Aubrey Small. And it was Small who hit a three to give BC their first lead 11-9.
BC would take a 24-11 halftime lead but Hudson started a comeback in the third and got the deficit to single digits after three quarters.
They would cut the lead to six in the fourth before the Cards turned it up and Hudson missed a few down the stretch. BC improves to 30-2 with a 48-37 win. Hudson ends the season 18-14.
“When you get to the playoffs, it’s a one and done situation,” said Coach Larry Sterling. “Hudson came in here with a good game plan, especially packing the zone on us. Now that it’s over I think in the long run it’s good we were challenged tonight. And we’ll see a team that does things differently than Hudson the next round.”
That next round is tentatively scheduled for Thursday night when BC takes on Wheatley (23-2). Site, TBA.
Small came off the bench to lead the way with 17 (4-3’s). Mia Sterling had 12 (7-8 FT). Kennedy Campbell led with five assists and Rylee Hebert and Kenlee Putnam had five rebounds each.
