Robert Clifton Payne, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Vidor, Texas, on Saturday, April 12, 2025. A longtime resident of Vidor, Robert was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and a respected general contractor who took pride in a job well done.
Robert had a deep love for the outdoors and a spirit of adventure. He spent many seasons hunting deer and elk, often sharing those moments with friends and family. He found great joy in horseback riding and had a lifelong passion for raising and breaking paint horses. Some of his favorite memories were made with friends and cousins while out pinning cows, living life the cowboy way.
More than anything, Robert cherished time with his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and great-grandfather whose legacy of hard work and dedication will carry on through the generations.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ginny Payne of Vidor, TX; his son Jason Payne of Vidor, TX; brother Gary Payne of Orange, TX; sisters Latrelle Foreman of Bleakwood, TX, and Ellen Whitley of Lumberton, TX; grandson Ryan Payne and wife Jacelyn of Mauriceville, TX; and great-granddaughter Emersyn Payne of Texas.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Clifton and Carrie Payne and his brother, Stephen Payne.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered for his strong hands, kind heart, and the cowboy grit that never faded.
