“I hope to see my Pilot face to face, when I have crost the bar.”
James (Jim) Edward Bingham crossed the bar on the morning of August 23, 2024. He was surrounded by family and friends at his home in Lincoln City, OR. He was 74 years of age.
Jim was born in Orange, TX on March 20, 1950 to Leon and Lola Bingham. He graduated from West Orange High School in 1968. Soon after, in 1969, he joined the U. S. Navy and found a career. He spent the next 23 years serving in submarines; the silent service. As he was fond of saying, “I spent most of my time in places I can’t tell you, doing things I can’t talk about.” He retired as a Chief Petty Officer.
It was while stationed in Hawaii that he met the love of his life, Debra M. Siers They were married on November 16, 1974. They remained together until the end. They raised three children while navigating the perils of military life, bouncing from base to base.
After retiring from the Navy, they pulled out a map and looked for a place that had mountains, beaches and was cool in the summertime. They settled in Lincoln City, Oregon. Jim spent the rest of his life there raising the children, camping in the mountains and watching the grandchildren grow.
A private memorial service for family and friends was held at his residence on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lola Bingham, his brother Bruce, and his sister Lillie Mae Gray. He is survived by his wife Debra Bingham, sons Aaron Bingham and Trent Bingham, daughter Kendra Novoa, brother Jeff Bingham and five grandchildren.
