The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers investigated a single-vehicle crash following a pursuit, on Interstate Highway 10 east, near the Adams Bayou overpass in Orange, that occurred Friday, August 4, 2023.
A man called police around 1pm saying he had had witnessed a man on a bicycle looking into his truck that was parked at his job on Tram Rd. in Beaumont. The man on the bike got into the truck, with trailer attached, and started to drive away. The owner of the truck followed in another vehicle as he began driving eastbound on I-10.
Vidor Police, along with Rose City and the OC Sheriff’s Department joined in the chase as speeds reached over 90mph. The red truck struck other vehicles as it tried to get away. DPS tried to lay down a spike strip in Orange near the MLK overpass but he avoided it.
He would strike the inside wall and then wreck out on the Adams Bayou overpass, near the 16th St exit.
Robert Tunnel, 31, of Beaumont, is facing theft and evading charges and possibly more.
