The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 77 calls to service last week from July 12th to July 18th, 2021. We currently have 21 inmates in the following Jails, 11 housed in Newton, 10 housed in Jasper. Last week there were 11 individuals booked into the Jail.

We are pleased to announce, that Newton County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Initiatives Program (VIP). The VIP is for individuals who wish to volunteer their time to be members of a group that provides help, support, and coordination for Law Enforcement. The greatest asset of any community is its people. A barometer of that value is the willingness of the people to get involved helping others who need assistance. Public Services is one the backbones of this nation and has long endured the test of time. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Newton County by working as an effective team. As a NCSO VIP member, you will be a valuable member of our team.
Criteria for Volunteers
- Are individuals who perform services without pay
- Augment NCSO staff but do not replace paid staff positions
- Are nonsworn members and do not have the authority or duties that would classify them as a peace officer
- Have been selected for a volunteer position by NCSO
- Are expected to perform a minimum of 8 hours per month
- Turn in a monthly time sheet signed by a full-time Supervisor
- Must attend a mandatory orientation
- To become an “authorized volunteer” – a complete background check will be required
A meeting to further discuss the components of this program will be held at the following locations at the times indicated below:

July 26th, 2021 at 6:00 PM – Cade Building, Burkeville
July 28th, 2021 at 6:00 PM – Deweyville Annex, Deweyville
