North Texas Senior Lauren Cox of Orange held on for her first collegiate individual title, as the UNT women’s golf team finished off a dominant victory in the Entrada Classic at Snow Canyon Country Club in Utah on Tuesday. The Mean Green cruised to a 19-stroke win over second-place Iowa with a three-day score of 875 and 11-over par, and Cox’s par on the 18th hole, coupled with a double-bogey from a BYU golfer, broke a first-place tie and gave Cox the win.
The tournament championship is the first for the Mean Green since the 2010-11 season when the team won four tournaments. Cox’s title is the first for an individual since the 2012-13 season when Georgina Mundy won the UALR Women’s Golf Classic.
On Wednesday, she was rewarded for her efforts by the league when she was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week – the second such honor of her career and second this season with the first coming in September.
Cox also owns the school record with a round of 66 set last season.
