There’s an old coach saying that you don’t play the game on paper, you play it on the field.
The Allen DeShazo led Bridge City Cardinals had to beat a favored Splendora and get some help from the Lumberton Raiders to make the playoffs despite just two wins this season.
With 7:12 left in the game BC was down 20-17 and down the road Lumberton was losing to LCM in the fourth quarter 14-0.
Then both games were put into a magicians hat and instead of a rabbit being pulled out, the Cards pulled out a ticket to the postseason.
BC’s Rylan Ply scored the go ahead TD in the fourth and then had to hold on for a 24-20 win. Meantime the Raiders scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to send Lumberton into overtime with the Bears and the Raiders won 20-14.
BC will play Navasota on Friday at 7pm in Huffman.
