A subcontractor at West Orange-Stark Middle School was arrested Tuesday for having methamphetamine and a meth pipe on campus. Orange Police Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the man was not a school employee. The school called police in the afternoon because a car was parked in a fire lane in the front of the school and buses were going to be arriving to use the space. The school wanted police help in finding the owner. Enmon said the officer looked inside and saw a prescription bottle with pills that did not match. He also found methamphetamine. Orange Allocates HOT Money To Local Groups
It pays to thank the Orange City Council. Most of the organizations that had representatives appear during a public hearing Tuesday for the Hotel Occupancy Tax allocations got more money than suggested. Not every group budgeted money appeared before the council. "I didn't hear from everyone and it kind of makes me sad," said District 4 Councilor Annette Pernell. Weather Changing Football Schedule
As of 1:30pm Wednesday four football games scheduled for Friday have had changes made because of the weather forecast. Vidor's game vs. Caney Creek has been moved to Conroe's Moorhead Stadium on Thursday at 7pm. Orangefield has moved their game with Shepherd to Splendora High School on Friday at 7:30pm. Deweyville's game with Kountze has been moved to Lumberton HS. It will still be on Friday at 7pm and the Pirates will be the home team. Lucy “Nell” Bass Williams was born to Pearl Evans Bass and Sam J. Bass in Fordyce, Arkansas, on August 9, 1922. As the baby of the family she had two older brothers, Sam and Doug, and was the apple of her father’s eye. Nell’s mother passed away in 1935 and when her father married Birdie Bass, she gained two sisters, Betty and Peggy. Nell graduated from high school in Hopeville, Arkansas. She married Houston P. Bigger Lot, Ice Cream Trucks Approved
The Orange City Council voted to spend $50,000 in economic development money for Mike Lemoine and Spanky's Barbecue on 16th Street to expand a parking lot. The council Tuesday voted on the grant, which was also approved by the city's Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. The money for the grant comes from the city's special sales tax approved by voters in 2002. State law restricts its use. City Economic Development Director Jay Trahan said Lemoine is planning $213,000 worth of improvements to the restaurant with a parking lot addition for 38 more spaces. Wrong GPS directions caused a tree injury Monday morning and led an 18-wheel truck rig to call Orange police. Officers at 7 a.m. went to 20th Street and Burton Avenue because a tree limb had become stuck in the truck. Police report the driver of the 18-wheeler said he was on the way to Firestone, 5713 FM 1006. However, his GPS system said the chemical plant was at 20th and Burton Avenue.
