Mary Frances Dorman Vassar, 69, of Vinton, Louisiana, passed away on October 6, 2018, in Sulphur, Louisiana. Born in Orange, Texas, on June 12, 1949, she was the daughter of Hershel D. Dorman and Lois Green Dorman. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Vassar. Holiday In The Park in Nov. 3
The City of West Orange proudly invites the public to join them in celebrating this year’s Holiday in the Park festival on Saturday, November 3, 2018. The event will take place next door to West Orange City Hall on Western Avenue beginning at 9:00 a.m. that morning, continuing until dusk that evening. As always, there is no gate charge to the event. The festival has something for everyone. Jones Sworn Into Office
The swearing in ceremony for Mark Jones as the new Precinct Two Constable was held Friday afternoon in the Commissioners Courtroom. Prior to the ceremony, Jones retired after nearly 29 years with the Sheriff’s Office. Jones was presented a plaque and hugs from many of the deputies he worked with and helped as the department’s training officer. Another Stage Completed
Stage 3 of the inclusive playground Stay and Play at Little Cypress Intermediate School was dedicated Friday. The playground opened in 2013 and had a safety rubberized surface installed in 2016. The facility now has a metal roof which will shield the students when they play there on rainy days or block the sun on other days when it is hot and sunny. The playground’s equipment allows children with special needs to play and have fun with other students. Charles E. Rowley January 30, 1956 – October 1, 2018 Charles Rowley, known to friends as “Chuck”, passed away October 1, 2018, at the age of 62. A native to Orange, Chuck graduated from Little Cypress – Mauriceville in 1974 and went on to serve in the US Navy from 1974 – 1979. He is survived by his daughter Skylar Rowley, son Dakota Rowley, and their mother Jill Rowley. It was the Montavien Hunt Show Friday night in Jasper. He rushed 23 times for 362 yards and four touchdowns as the Bulldogs beat the West Orange-Stark Mustangs 34-24. What was even more amazing (and unbelievable) than seeing that many yards against the WOS defense, was the fact that he had 284 of those yards on his four touchdown runs of 57, 80, 70, and 77. Bouncing back from their first loss of the season and the season ending injury of their starting quarterback the Orangefield Bobcats played a solid game on their home turf for their first district win of the season on Friday night. Orangefield defeated the Kirbyville Wildcats 31-20 at F. L. McClain Stadium. Orangefield (4-1, 1-1) never trailed in the ball game.
