Coaches Must Be Certified To Teach Tackling
Before next football season begins, football coaches in the high school and junior high ranks will need to be certified in teaching tackling. The University Interscholastic League has said that they and the Texas High School Coaches Association have collaborated to make Texas the first in the country to implement a mandatory statewide tackling certification program for all football coaches to raise standards and improve safety. The brick facade of the mid-century modern building on Green Avenue began coming down last week the scent of Maple Nut Goodies, bolts of new gingham and red rubber balls were long gone. But the 1956 building, used for years by Lamar State College-Orange and the local U.S. Representative, was once the home of the popular dime store, Perry Brothers (usually abbreviated Bros.). Six Locals Headed To Boston
Six Orange County runners are headed to Boston to run in the 122nd Boston Marathon. The race is scheduled for Monday, April 16 which is Patriots Day. Bree Fontenot, Brian Bauer, Joe Melanson and Billie Kay Melancon will join Crystal Magee and David Constant. A runner must meet a qualifying standard for their age division in a previous marathon to qualify for the prestigious invitation.
