Robert (Bob) Lee Parris, age 82, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at his home in Orange, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 2 pm at Hillcrest Cemetery in Orange with Pastor Phillip Reid officiating. Services were made under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home. Robert was born on Thursday, February 1, 1936, in Phoroah, Oklahoma to parents, Mildred (Farrar) and Orda Lee Parris. He had been a resident of Orange, Texas since 1981, after moving from Festus, Missouri. With first place on the line Bridge City got a clutch pitching performance from Peyton Havard. The Cardinals defeated the Orangefield Bobcats 1-0 at Paul Cormier Field Friday night. Havard threw a complete game shutout to keep Bridge City (8-1) atop the district standings. He gave up just two singles, two walks, and struck out 11 Bobcats to earn the win for the Cardinals. The Friends of the Orange Depot have announced that plans are well under way for their annual fundraiser, DEPOT DAY, Saturday, May 12, 12-5PM at the Orange Railroad Depot Museum, 1210 Green Avenue. “Sprad” Passes Away At 87
Hubert "Sprad" Spradling, who was an Orange cultural icon as a founder of an acrobatic water skiing team in the 1950s, has died. He was a few weeks short of his 88th birthday. He also was a boat dealer for decades and owned Sprad's Boat Town on MacArthur Drive along Adams Bayou. He and the late Charles Webb made wooden water skis in 1950 after seeing a design in the magazine Popular Mechanics. They not only built themselves skis, they taught themselves how to ski. Louisiana Votes Down HB 391
A bill that would have restored anglers’ rights to access public waters in Louisiana was voted down in the state legislature this week by a vote of 37-59. Proponents of House Bill 391, including B.A.S.S., the Louisiana B.A.S.S. Deweyville Girls Win Area Meet
The Deweyville Lady Pirates brought home the team trophy from Thursday's Area Meet between Districts 23 & 24-2A. They racked up an impressive 146 points, 31 better than second place than West Sabine. Brooke Smith lead the way, qualifying in all five events she entered which included a first place finish in the Long Jump. Holli Shannon added four medals including an impressive five second win in the 300 hurdles. Her time of 48.1 would've also won the 4A Meet.
