The Bridge City Cardinals completed the sweep of Hardin-Jefferson Friday with a 5-0 win at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Cards scored in the first when Caleb Dubois drove in Logan Hamm, who walked to reach base. In the second, Cameron Yadon singled, stole second and then reached third on a wild pitch before he was brought in on a Hamm ground out to first. State Track Meet Underway
The State Track and Field Meet began Friday in Austin with three area kids competing. Maddison Helm of Orangefield was seventh in the 4A girls 3200 with a time of 12:05. The winning time was 11:21. Eli Peveto of LCM finished fourth in the 4A 3200 with a time of 9:58. The winning time was 9:38. And in the 4A Long Jump, Bridge City's Max Baker was seventh with a jump of 22-0. Sales Tax Still On The Increase
Sales tax income for local entities continues to rise in the months after Tropical Storm Harvey. The Texas Comptroller's Office has sent money to the entities covering sales for the month of March. The payments are: Bridge City (1.5 percent sales tax): $180,158 for the month and $768,121 for the year to date, a 28.8 percent increase from the same time last year. Orange (1.5 percent sales tax): $547,733 for the month and $2.38 million for the year to date, a 27.9 percent increase from the same time last year. A double steal by Bridge City in the sixth inning produced the winning run as the Cardinals beat Hardin-Jefferson 3-2 at Vincent-Beck Stadium Thursday. With Peyton Havard at first and Cace Skinner at third and two outs, the Cards attempted a double steal. Skinner scored from third as Havard was being tagged out between first and second. An Orange police captain drove up on some fishy behavior during his lunch break Wednesday. He then used diplomacy to work out the great sushi detente.
