Woman Killed In Accident On Hwy. 62
On Friday, May 18 at 11:28 pm, officers of the Orange Police Department were dispatched to the 9500 blk. of Highway 62, in regards to a major accident involving a pickup truck and a tractor trailer. Upon arrival at 11:37 pm, officers found a 60 year old female resident of Orange County had been operating a pickup truck southbound on Hwy 62 and had crossed over into the northbound lane for an unknown reason and collided with the tractor trailer. The female, Beth Shaver Provost, was transferred by Acadian Air Med to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where she was pronounced deceased. Michael Arnaud has labored as a professional golfer since 2004. Odds are you probably never heard of him, at least until his torrid start Friday during the Web.com Tour BMW Charity Pro-Am Friday. Arnaud, a 36 year old WOS grad, was 9-under-par after just seven holes and narrowly missed shooting the first 59 in Web.com Tour history before finishing with a 60. He finished 10 under at the Thornblade Club in Greenville, S.C. and was tied for the lead when he finished his round. Cards Season Ends Friday
The Jasper Bulldogs advanced to the fourth round of the 4A playoffs Friday with a 9-3 win over Bridge City. With the win the Dogs swept the series 2-0. BC scored in the first but the Bulldogs responded with five runs, one in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth before BC slowed them down with one in the bottom of the fifth. Worthy, Burks Are Go Texan Winners
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is known for their great concerts. But they're purpose is to give back to the community and they do that in a big way. Thursday 79 students received Go Texan Scholarships worth $20,000 each. Drew Worthy from Orangefield and Espyn Burks from Vidor, were chosen as the Orange County Go Texan representatives. Both were selected based on their grades, citizenship and leadership in their school and community. Both are headed to Texas A&M. Every set of ears and eyes were spellbound by the heavily researched true story of a circus which came to Orange in the 1920s, as KOGT's Margaret Toal relayed the pachyderm's adventure and ill fate to members of Golden K Kiwanis on Wed., May 16, at the club's 9 a.m. meeting at the Orange Salvation Army on MLK and Strickland. Baker Jumping To Lamar
Friday Bridge City multi-star Max Baker announced he would be continuing his track and field career at Lamar University. Baker recently competed in the long jump at the 4A State Track Meet and had the areas best jump of 23 feet. Lamar's top jumper Brian O'Bonna will be graduating. He recently jump 24-3.75 at the conference championships, finishing fourth. BCCC Awards Scholarships
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce held its annual search for scholarship recipients. To apply for a scholarship, students filled out an application, supplied copies of their transcripts, list of extra circular activities, copies of their SAT/ACT scores, provided copies of letters of recommendation, and wrote an essay on why they should be chosen to receive the scholarship. After the chamber’s scholarship committee reviewed each application, they have chosen two Bridge City High School Seniors and two Orangefield High School Seniors to receive $500 each.
