A young man who was killed in Austin last week will have funeral services in Bridge City on Thursday. 32-year-old Christian Meroney died outside his South Austin apartment after being shot on July 9. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Bridge City. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Orange. Survivors include his mother, Becky Meroney and her husband, Jimmy Croaker of Orange. Austin police have arrested and charged 29-year-old Charles Curry, who lived six doors down from Meroney, with murder. On Thanksgiving Day 1953, a 26-year-old reporter from Nashville stood on the stoop of a small, wood-frame house on Orange Avenue and knocked at the door. The couple who lived at the house agreed to talk with him. The story he wrote about them coming back from the dead made worldwide headlines and started him on a long, illustrious career. Store Robbed Sunday Night
On July 15 at 8:54 pm, officers of the Orange Police Department were dispatched to the SunMart Convenience Store at 333 Lutcher Dr. in regards to an Aggravated Robbery. Upon arrival at 8:56 pm, officers met with the clerk who advised that she had been robbed at gunpoint by a black male of an undetermined amount of money. Woman Found Injured On Hwy. 12
At approximately 7:15a.m. Saturday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was notified of an injured woman on the improved shoulder of Highway 12 in Orange County. DPS Troopers responded to the area of Highway 12 and FM 1136 and found an injured woman lying on the westbound shoulder of Highway 12. At the time, there were no vehicles in the area and no visible crash debris. The 29-year-old Buna woman was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. Resource Fair Held Saturday
Orange County Disaster Rebuild sponsored a free community resource fair on Saturday, July 14, at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center. Charitable organizations and emergency response groups provided information and resources for citizens to take with them. Also at the fair were case managers recruited by Orange County to help citizens deal with recovering from the affects of Tropical Storm Harvey. Their counseling was free and done in separate rooms at the Expo Center.
