The Texas Comptrollers Office says during this annual sales tax holiday, you can buy most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100) tax free from a Texas store or from an online or catalog seller doing business in Texas. In most cases, you do not need to give the seller an exemption certificate to buy qualifying items tax free. What to do with the Natatorium?
Orange Mayor Larry Spears Jr. Thursday said he thinks the city could repurpose the natatorium into a community center with basketball and volleyball courts. The council today during a budget workshop traveled to the natatorium to see some of the repairs that are needed. The pool is not open this summer because of a lack of a supervisor to oversee young lifeguards. The council decided not to pay $90,000 in the new budget year to drain, repaint and caulk the pool itself. County Releases Preliminary Budget
A preliminary budget for Orange County has been compiled for next year. The more than sixty-page document shows a budget of over 46 million dollars. The proposed budget was calculated with the same proposed tax rate of $0.542 per 100 dollars value as this year. County Judge Dean Crooks said this is just the first draft and may not be the final budget for the coming year. The budget is a work in progress and does have a deficit which the Commissioners Court will need to get rid of it with the savings the county has. BC Water Now Filtered
It has taken a long time to get filters on the water wells in Bridge City. As of this month the city now has water filters on all its wells. Delays imposed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality frustrated efforts by Bridge City to install water filters in the city’s water wells. The Romero Well was the last one to receive a filter after repairs were made to it during the last year. City Manager Jerry Jones is glad to have the Romero Well functioning one hundred percent. From the OC Sheriff's Department: On August 8th, 2018 at approximately 2:26PM, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division along with Orange County Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at the residence located at 5357 Old Highway 87 in Orange.
