Schools Receive TEA Grades
The Texas Education Agency Wednesday released the first report cards for schools, but the ones in Orange County were excused from the grading because of Hurricane Harvey. The agency this year gave letter grades of A, B, C, D, and F, like student report cards. However, the five Orange County school districts, along with the Deweyville ISD, had "This district was impacted by Hurricane Harvey and did not receive an overall rating or grade." The exemptions were made because some school districts missed weeks of classes after Harvey damaged buildings and made classroom unusable. Tentative … [Read more...] about Schools Receive TEA Grades

Proposed Rate Is Not Final Rate
The Orange City Council Tuesday voted on a higher tax rate of about 11 cents per $100 valuation, though council members said they plan to continue to cut expenses to get a lower rate. The proposed rate is 83 cents per $100 valuation, a fraction of a cent less than the amount that could allow citizens to call for a tax rollback election. The council will hold public hearings and two votes before the proposed rate becomes official. City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre stressed to the council the proposed rate is not final. "We're working hard to get below that," said District 2 Councilor Brad … [Read more...] about Proposed Rate Is Not Final Rate
