Update: Late Monday the body of Ashley Southern was discovered in a wooded area near the Indian Lake area. Newton Co. Sheriffs Dept. is looking for a woman who has been reported missing. She was last seen on a security camera Sunday morning walking south on CR 4213 (Indian Lake Road) wearing a blue striped dress. Newton Co. Sheriff Billy Rowles said Ashley Southern is believed to be around 28 years old, 205 pounds with sandy hair. Yeti Thefts On The Increase
Orange police were called to investigate a handful of burglaries during the weekend, including one at a business on Simmons Drive. A Yeti cooler was stolen Friday afternoon from a garage with an open door. A neighbor living in the 2000 block of Monterrey Drive in the Charlemont subdivision called police at 2:17 p.m. to report seeing a man take the cooler. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the neighbor saw two men in a mid-size Ford car drive slowly through the neighborhood. They stopped after seeing the open garage. Workers Show Up At Memorial
The Sons of Confederate Veterans last week began the first work in five years at the confederate flag memorial on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Orange. Marshall Davis, a statewide spokesman for the group who does not live in Orange County, said the group had gotten more money to spend on the memorial. A group of volunteers, including some from Louisiana, were out at the memorial Saturday working on the memorial and mowing the grass. A 'No Trespassing' sign is posted on the property. There have been a few changes to Meet the Teacher for students registered to attend Little Cypress Intermediate and Little Cypress Elementary Schools. The event is still on Friday, August 24, but LCI students should come from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. instead of the time that was released earlier. New Era Begins For BC Football
Last year was a real bummer for Bridge City. Injuries depleted the Cardinals of many of their top starters and the result was predictable with just one victory on the season. New Head Coach Allen DeShazo served as the defensive coordinator last year after two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Cardinals. The cross country relay team of Maddison and Katelynn Helm of Orangefield placed fourth out of more than 50 relay teams with a final time of 27:08.4 in four Mile Relay held during the Huffman Relays last Saturday. OF's Payton Wrinkle and Brandon Scogin competed in Huffman’s 6 Mile Relay placing 35th out of more than 64 relay teams with the final time of 39:50.9.
