Foul play is not suspected in the death of a 29-year-old woman whose body was found Monday evening in deep woods off the Sabine River in north Orange County. Orange County Sheriff's Investigations Captain Cliff Hargrave said the autopsy of Ashley Southern showed she had no signs of traumatic injury. He said a toxicology test for the autopsy will take a few weeks. Southern and her husband had been at his mother's house in the Indian Lake Road area of Deweyville. OCC Votes To Keep Same Tax Rate
The Commissioners Court unanimously voted Tuesday to keep the same tax rate as this year’s rate for next year. The county is facing a deficit of about $3.1 million in its current budget and reduced property values following Tropical Storm Harvey. County Judge Dean Crooks led the discussion concerning keeping the proposed tax rate at $0.542 per 100 dollars value. Commissioner John Gothia considered raising the tax rate slightly until the public hearings next month when the tax rate can be lowered, but not increased. At approximately 11:00a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Jefferson County. The crash occurred near Gator Country. A request for a property in Bridge City to be used for a recreational vehicle park was denied by a close vote of 5-4 Monday by the Planning and Zoning Commission. Clint Wise presented a plat to the commission for an approximately four-acre parcel of land on which he wants to build a 30-space RV park near Cow Bayou and State Highway 87.
