A request for a property in Bridge City to be used for a recreational vehicle park was denied by a close vote of 5-4 Monday by the Planning and Zoning Commission. Clint Wise presented a plat to the commission for an approximately four-acre parcel of land on which he wants to build a 30-space RV park near Cow Bayou and State Highway 87.
Wise proposed to include a marina bar and grill, a boat ramp, dry boat storage, and a grounds manager’s house in the future with the RV park. Wise wants to purchase the property from the Housemans. He adds that the offer from the Housemans for the land means he will need multiple revenue resources to make it worth his making the purchase. The City of Bridge City once considered building a city park on the same property the cost of the land was too much.
Although not a public hearing on the request, six citizens in addition to Wise were allowed to speak to the commission. Only one of the six voiced any support for Wise’s planned project.
Council woman Tammi Fisette who serves as a liaison for the City Council with the Planning and Zoning Commission also spoke and informed she received numerous calls concerning the proposal to build the RV park. Fisette emphasized she and the callers had no problem with the building of the bar and grill on the property, but the concern is with the trailer park. Fisette advised, “The RV park is the major concern, the vicinity and what’s going on.”
With such a close vote, Wise indicated he may not be finished with his plans for the property on Cow Bayou.
“I’m going revisit with the city again. Mr. Jones asked me to come see him so I’m going to come listen to what he’s got to say, I think the city does want something here. It’s not the end of the world,” Wise stated.
At the conclusion of the meeting Robert Simonton announced he was resigning from the Planning and Zoning Commission. Simonton who previously served on the City Council informed that he and his wife Justice of the Peace in Precinct 3 Joy Dubose-Simonton are moving out of Bridge City city limits.
