KIPP 0 0 0 0- 0
WO-S 27 21 13 0- 61
The shutout was not unexpected for the Mustangs’ defense. The fact they almost had a perfect game nearly put an exclamation point on the game. The West Orange-Stark Mustangs galloped past the KIPP Northeast Gators Friday night 61-0 at Dan R. Hooks Stadium.
West Orange-Stark (4-0) remains unscored upon on the season and will probably remain as the number one team in Class 4-A in Texas following its thoroughly dominating performance against KIPP Northeast. The Mustangs did not give up a first down until the last play of the game.
The Mustangs’ first team offense only played the first quarter and 20 seconds of the second. West Orange-Stark had a 34-0 lead by then, scoring on all four of its possession in five plays or less each time. Jarron Morris added a 39-yard punt return for the other touchdown.
Jeremiah Shaw was impressive with 91 yards and a touchdown on just six carries. Jack Dallas threw a touchdown to Blake Robinson for the first score of the night and later scored on a short run in his limited playing time.
The scoring was spread around on the night as eight different Mustangs found the end zone. B. B. Tezeno swept end for 40 yards to close out the scoring with 2:02 to play in the third quarter and became the only Mustang with two touchdowns in the game. He scored the final touchdown of the first half on an 8-yard pass from Chaka Watson.
West Orange-Stark used two kickers again. Chad Dallas was perfect on five extra points, but did miss a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Paulino Santos had two of his four kicks blocked while making the other two.
KIPP Northeast (0-3) almost picked up a first down in the second quarter when punter Emile Mulonda faked the kick and found a lot of running room around the left side. He actually gained about 15 yards which would have been enough for the first down, but WO-S return man Tezeno slammed into him at about the 40 jarring the ball loose. It was recovered by the Gators; however, it was at the 35 which was two yards shy of the first down.
The Gators finally garnered their only first down on the final play of the game. Quarterback Desmond Houston ran an option to the left picking up 12 yards for the first down as the clock expired.
Next week should be a stronger test for West Orange-Stark. The Silsbee Tigers come to Dan R. Hooks Stadium to play the Mustangs. The kickoff Friday night will be at 7:30 PM.
