The photo you see was a familiar sight Saturday afternoon on a wet and windy Tully Stadium field as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs defeated Cuero 41-28 to advance to the 4A D2 State Championship for the second straight year.
Receiver Thomas Wallace caught four touchdown passes, three from quarterback Jack Dallas and one from Keion Hancock on a fourth and one call from the 37. The first touchdown was on the first play from scrimmage for WOS when Dallas hit Wallace in front of the Cuero bench for a 58 yard score.
The Dallas-Wallace combo struck again before the half on an 80 yd score and then again in the second half from 22.
The other two touchdowns were also through the air with Dallas hitting Jay’len Mathews from 15, and Jeremiah Shaw on a screen pass from 20.
On a weather day that looked like it was going to be dominated by the ground game, the Mustangs beat the mother out of nature and the feathers off the gobblers.
Dallas ended the day with five touchdown passes on 13 of 21 passing for 270 yards and Wallace caught five for 204 and four scores.
Inside the friendly, thermostat controlled confines of NRG Stadium, the Mustangs will have only one opponent Friday in the State Championship game.
