Texas Lutheran senior offensive lineman Tyler Howlett (Little Cypress Mauriceville) is one of 165 national nominees for the 25th Anniversary Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced the nominees for the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, one of the most coveted off-the-field honors in college football.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the award, which was established in 1992 to recognize a select group of college football players who have made a commitment to service and enriching the lives of others.
Howlett is a three-year letterman for the Bulldogs. He was a 2015 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team honoree and a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection the past two seasons.
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in accounting, Howlett currently holds a 3.82 grade point average.
Howlett has been a D3football.com Offensive Line honoree on Team of the Week (twice), and he scored a rushing TD of 11 yards in the 2015 conference-championship clinching road win over Southwestern.
A member of three consecutive SCAC Championship squads, Howlett will be a three-year starter. A team captain, Howlett is a member of TLU Football’s award-winning community service program – recognized as TLU Athletics’ Team Community Service Award Winner for 2014-15.
The Bulldogs are 25-5 with Howlett on the team and 17-4 with him in the starting lineup. Howlett blocked for 2014 NCAA Division III rushing champion Marquis Barrolle and started on the Bulldogs’ 2014 NCAA DIII playoff team.
A three-time Academic All-Conference selection, Howlett is a Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Fraternity member.
