Jase Gipson had a kick return for 45 yards. Defensively, the Bobcats played well, despite giving up a few big plays in a 30-0 loss. The Bobcats will host the Longhorns of Hamshire-Fannett next Thursday at 5:00.
The 8th Grade Orangefield Bobcat Football team struggled mightily last night losing to the Newton Eagles 40-8. The game started off well with the Cats pounding the ball down the field behind the strong blocking of Connor Tait and Logan Duffey, but after chewing up most of the 1st quarter the offense stalled out when they failed to convert a 4th & short from inside the opponents 35 yard line. After that, Newton took possession and never looked back scoring on 4 straight drives in the first half. The Bobcats struggled to adjust to the Eagles’ unbalanced line early and gave up some very big plays on the edges, the last of which was through the air. Newton’s only completion came on a “toss throwback” that sent Orangefield into the half trailing 32-0. FB, Kadeon Evans was asked to carry the offense by filling in for the starting quarterback after he was forced to the sideline with a back injury in the first quarter. After the game Coach Reed stated, “Evans is the glue that is keeping this team together right now. We have been a little snake bit when it comes to injuries and having a gritty, reliable ball player like Kadeon has really been a benefit to the team.” The boys tightened up some things at halftime and finished with pride by holding the Eagles out of the end zone for much of the second half. Jacob Harvey, Kayson DuBois, and Brant Hyatt provided a lot of energy for the Bobcat defense and will be relied upon heavily next week as the team will be back at home to face the Longhorns of Hamshire-Fannett for homecoming.
