All Orange County school districts and campuses meet state standards
All the public school districts and individual schools in Orange County and Deweyville met the state standards for accountability. The Texas Education Agency Friday released the results from the past school year from the STAAR testing.
Last year, the West Orange-Stark Elementary School was the only one in Orange County that needed improvement. In the current ratings, the school earned two of a possible five distinctions.
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness standardized testing started last year. School districts and campuses are given designations of either ‘met standard’ or ‘improvement required.’ The ratings include how much progress students make each year and the graduation rates. The accountability ratings also consider how the districts (or schools) are closing the performance gap between students from different economic levels.
The distinctions can be earned in seven categories for the middle and high school levels and in five categories for elementary. The distinctions are based on the rank in the top percentages of schools with comparable enrollment and size in subjects like language arts, math, social studies and science. Distinctions can also come from being in the top 25 percent of schools in student progress rates, closing the performance gap, and post-secondary readiness.
Schools with distinctions are:
Bridge City High School: Student progress and closing the gap.
Bridge City Middle School: Math
Little Cypress Junior High: Science and social studies
Mauriceville Middle School: Math
Mauriceville Elementary: Science and student progress.
Orangefield Junior High: Math
Orangefield Elementary: Student progress
West Orange-Stark Middle School: Social studies and closing the gap
West Orange-Stark Elementary: Science and student progress
Vidor Elementary: Student progress
