Richard T. Slaydon
October 31, 1957 – October 15, 2016
After courageously battling a lengthy illness, Richard T. Slaydon was called home to be with our Lord on Saturday, October 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was proceeded in death by his father, James O. Slaydon and his sister Judith M. Slaydon. He is survived by his mother, Maxine Slaydon, brother Gary Slaydon, sister, Connie Ball, wife of 38 years, Mary, children Travis Slaydon (Monica), Rich Slaydon (Kelly), Katie Slaydon, Alicia Forshage (Glynn) and grandchildren, Kaylee, Hunter, Reagan, Landon, and Harper.
Richard was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and PawPaw. He was born in DeRidder, LA (Oct. 31, 1957), but later moved to Bridge City, TX, where he graduated high school. He was a talented Athlete who had the privilege of receiving a football scholarship to the University of Texas, where he played from 1976-1980. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing then went on to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
Richard moved to the Rio Grande Valley and worked in Brownsville, TX for 32 years as a CRNA. Pediatric anesthesia became his biggest thrill, but his passion and dedication for kids went beyond the hospital doors. He coached little league baseball and football for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, and even more, introducing kids to sports and the outdoors.
Please join us in celebrating Richard’s life on Saturday, October 29th at 2:00 PM. The service will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, located at 1417 E. Austin St. in Harlingen, TX.
