Dorothy Jo Parks was born on December 7, 1939, in Langston Oklahoma.
She was the youngest of 9 children born to the union of Lula Christian Cole Brown and Henry Brown.
Dorothy attended school in Langston Oklahoma and received her Associate of Arts degree from Trade Tech College in Los Angeles, CA.
Dorothy dedicated her life to Christ while attending New Hope Baptist Church in Langston Oklahoma. During this time she also found her passion for singing Gospel music.
On December 29,1961, Dorothy married the Love of her life Marvin Parks Sr. together they raised three children. Kim, Marvin Jr, and Gary. Dorothy served faithfully by her husband’s side as the First Lady of Heavenly Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church for 33 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, she was also apart of the Mission dept. Dorothy was affectionately known for her angelic voice.
After 27 years of faithful service, Dorothy retired as a Special Education Instructor for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Her passion for Special education students and their development was shown daily through her skillset she believed all children deserved the best education possible.
Her favorite past times included, Reading, Sewing, cooking, and singing. When Dorothy Jo approached the microphone you were sure to hear the anointing of God.
In 2005 Dorothy and her husband relocated to Orange Texas and served in various ministries until they joined Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Raymond C. Young Sr. She was a faithful member, the Mission Board President and affectionately known as the church mother.
On June 29,2017, Dorothy peacefully passed away at Baptist Beaumont Hospital. Preceding her in death are her Mother and father Henry and Lula Brown, Her brothers, Leo Brown, Costello Brown, sisters, Oletha Williams, Juanita Thompson, Henrietta Hollins. And Loretta Collier, She to mourn her passing her husband of 53 years Marvin Parks Sr, daughter Kim Tonette Brown of Los Angeles California, Son Marvin Parks Jr (Jean) of Orange, Texas, Gary B. Parks (Kristal) of San Dimas California, Two sisters Faye L. Trice, of Aurora Colorado, and Ruby Jean Brown of San Pablo, California, 7 grand children, 2 great grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephew’s family and friends.
