Bobby Donald Barras, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017. He was born in Port Arthur on February 8, 1935 and was a long time resident of Port Arthur/Bridge City area. His Father was Antoine Barras and his Mother was Inez Braquet Barras. A Wake Service will be held at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., with a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. TX. Fr. Leger, a longtime family friend, will be officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
Bobby attended Bishop Byrne High School graduating in 1953. He attended Rice University and Lamar University, graduating with a BA in Industrial Management in 1957. He was employed at Jefferson Chemical Co. and retired there as an Area Superintendent when it became Texaco Chemical after 37 years.
Bobby’s passion was service to community and he was very active through the years as a City Council member of Pear Ridge, coaching little league baseball, football, and on the Architectural Committee of the Waterwood Homeowner’s Association. He also volunteered at Orange Christian Services for many years. Bobby was a devout Catholic and was very involved in church services participating in the Choir, RCIA, Legion of Mary, Lecturer, Eucharistic Minister, and as a Teacher.
Bobby is survived by: Patti Smith Barras, wife of nearly 60 years – Orange, Texas; Leslie E. Barras, daughter and husband Kevin McAdams – Inverness, Florida; Steven Barras, son – Orange, Texas; Linda Barras Whiteley, daughter and husband Dr. James Whiteley – Webster, Texas, Don Dale Barras, son and wife Shannon Barras and Grandchildren Hunter and Morgan of Groves. Bobby also leaves behind brother, Jean and wife Velma of Nederland.
