The City of West Orange approved Monday the grant administrator and the engineer to handle a $275,000 block grant for sewer repairs in the city. Mayor Roy McDonald shared the details of the block grant. Traylor & Associates will serve as the grant administrators while Schaumburg & Polk will handle the engineering for the project. McDonald indicated the contractors that will do the actual construction will be selected at a later date.
The City Council decided to go out for bids to find a company which will provide solid waste removal services in West Orange. Mayor McDonald explained the reason for going out for bids were complaints by citizens concerning the current garbage pickup. McDonald admitted most of the complaints were minor, but that since the current contract is expiring shortly the City Council believed going out for bids would persuade the current vendor to fix the problems leading to complaints or the city would get a new contract with a different vendor. Waste Management currently provides solid waste removal in West Orange.
The student council at West Orange-Stark High School was given permission by the City Council to repaint the horseshoes on Newton Street. Tiffy McFatter the faculty representative for the student council indicates they hope to repaint the horseshoes the week after the Mustangs’ homecoming which is on October 7. The horseshoes were first painted on the street leading to Mustang Stadium in the 1980s when the football team won back-to-back state championships.
