An Amtrak passenger train managed to stop a few yards from a car transport trailer stuck on the Park Avenue railroad crossing Tuesday afternoon. Orange Police Captain Keith Longlois said a faster-moving freight train likely would have hit the trailer.
The truck with the trailer made it over the eastbound lane of the raised tracks, but the low trailer became stuck. Captain Longlois said the driver’s new GPS sent him eastbound on Park Avenue to get to Houston from Granger Chevrolet on MacArthur Drive.
The train was notified as it was going northbound on the tracks. The short Amtrak blocked the Cherry Avenue crossing but the Green Avenue crossing stayed clear until a tow truck could free the trailer.
