Only one of 11 food businesses got a perfect score for inspections during the first two weeks of August. Orange County Health Inspector James Scales also gave seven scores in the 90s and three in the 80s. Fresh Prep on West Roundbunch Road in Bridge City received a 100 score. The lowest score was an 81 and went to On Your Way Valero on Highway 12 in Vidor. The demerits there included barbecue sandwiches and sausage links found at unsafe temperatures. Dairy Queen, 1780 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 97. The area behind the grill needed to be cleaned of old grease.
Dollar General, 320 South Main Street in Vidor: 97. Several dead insects found in back storage area. Back storage door needed to be re-sealed. Broken restroom needed repairs.
Chef Leo’s China Bistro, 345 North Main Street in Vidor: 94. The door to the reach-in freezer was taped together and needed repairs. Vents above the wok needed to be cleaned of old grease. The inside of the walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods.
Texas Country Store, 1805 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 92. All foods and sandwiches inside the cooler needed to be dated. Inspector pulled several expired foods and dented cans from shelves.
Popeye’s Chicken, 1604 West Link Avenue in Orange: 90. Employee shirts were on top of bags of flour. The door to the walk-in cooler was not closing completely and needed to be repaired. Floors, vents and storage equipment needed to be cleaned of old foods. Broken and discarded equipment in the back storage area needs to be discarded or repaired. Floors needed to be re-grouted. Several areas of the kitchen did not have grout. The back storage area needed to be cleaned of old equipment and trash.
Pinehurst Barbecue and Steak, 100 Strickland Drive in Pinehurst: 90. All foods inside the coolers and freezers needed to be labeled and dated. The door panel on the food warmer was coming apart and exposing insulation. Air returns, floors and storage shelves inside the walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods. A gasket on the reach-in cooler needed to be repaired or replaced. Vents above the grill and fryers needed to be replaced.
Mutt and Jeff’s, 110 A South Main Street in Vidor: 90. Raw meats were stored above raw potatoes. Several gnats were found throughout the restaurant. Floors and storage shelves needed to be cleaned of old foods. Broken and unused equipment needed to be repaired or discarded. Light shields were needed above fryers.
Exxon Food Mart, 7120 Interstate 10 West in McLewis: 89. All foods and sandwiches inside coolers needed to be dated. Raw beef was stored above vegetables inside the walk-in cooler. Broken and unused equipment in the back storage area needed to be discarded or repaired.
French Quarter Bar and Grill, 500 South Street in Vidor: 85. Hair restraints were needed. All foods inside the coolers and freezers needed to be dated and covered. Boudain balls, red meats and seafood were defrosting on top of the over and inside the sink. The inside walk-in cooler, the inside of the reach-in freezer, storage equipment and walls needed to be cleaned of old foods. Several ceiling tiles in the kitchen were damaged and needed to be replaced.
On You Way Valero, 3030 Highway 12 in Vidor: 81. Barbecue sandwich and sausage link were found at unsafe temperatures. Raw beef was stored on the top shelf inside the reach-in cooler. The business did not have a certified food manager on staff. The deli department floors and shelves needed to be cleaned. The ices scoop was on top of storage shelves. Dust needed to be cleaned around all air vents.
