For the second week in a row the Commissioners Court will have an agenda item on adopting parliamentary procedures for its meetings when it meets on Tuesday. County Judge Brint Carlton put the item on the agenda initially for the first meeting of the year saying it would help move the meetings along. Commissioner David Dubose has requested the item be discussed again. Dubose says he has some questions he wants clarified on the parliamentary procedures approved by the Court.
The lone dissenting vote at the last meeting was from Commissioner John Banken in adopting the parliamentary procedures. Banken explains the reason he voted against the procedures is they are too restrictive. He compared them to the commissioners being in kindergarten class and having to raise their hand for permission to speak by the teacher. Banken emphatically stated that county commissioners are elected officials just like the county judge, and they should be able to voice their opinion the way they see it on any item.
Early voting for the March 1 primary is still over a month away, but the Commissioners Court will approve locations and dates at its meeting. The Orange Public Library will serve as the main early voting location. The Mauriceville Volunteer Fire Department located on Highway 62 will be the early voting location for that area of the county. The Bridge City Public Works Building and the Raymond Gould Community Center will again serve as early voting sites in Bridge City and Vidor. Early voting will be done Tuesday, February 16, through Saturday, February 20, and Monday, February 22, through Friday, February 26. The Commissioners Court meets at 2:00 Tuesday afternoon in the Administration Building of the Courthouse.
