The Orange City Council Tuesday on first reading approved the property tax rate of 71.7 cents per $100 valuation, the same rate as currently in effect.
The same rate will increase city tax income by 6.23 percent. Whether a property owner pays more will be based on property appraisals that were mailed in May.
The council has held two public hearings on the new tax rate and no one spoke at the hearings.
A second vote to make the tax rate final will be held on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Orange County Commissioners Court last week dealt with a similar confusion based on percentages of revenue instead of the tax rate.
