A 26-year-old man damaged his Lincoln MKZ but escaped injury Sunday afternoon when the car crashed into a utility pole. Police said the man from Orange was driving the luxury car eastbound in the 3400 block of Masonic Drive about 12:20 p.m. The car went off the road and hit the pole. Police report the man was not injured. The car had to be towed away. The driver was given a traffic ticket for failure to maintain a single lane.
Friday afternoon, a 58-year-old woman was injured on Highway 87 South at FM 105 when a car hit the back of her car, knocking her car into another one.
Orange police said the woman was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room. She had non-incapacitating injuries.
The collision was about 3:30 p.m. Friday. The woman was driving a Kia passenger car and she was stopped at the traffic light behind a Chevrolet Impala. A Mercedes 240 hit the Kia, which then hit the Impala.
Orange police report the 89-year-old driver of the Impala and his 65-year-old passenger, both from Orange, were not injured. The 38-year-old driver of the Mercedes, also from Orange, was not injured. He was given a citation for failure to control speed and no driver’s license.
A Kaplan, Louisiana, man was arrested Sunday night at local hotel after a guest complained of smelling marijuana coming from a room. Orange police went to the Studio 6 on Highway 62 South at 8 p.m. after a clerk called because of the complaint.
Two officers knocked on the door of the room. The man’s wife answered and said he was asleep. After the man was awakened, he denied having pot, but agreed that officers could search. The officers reported smelling marijuana and they found “roaches” in two prescription bottles. They also found marijuana stored in a glasses case.
The man said the weed was his and not his wife’s. He was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail for a Class B misdemeanor.
