The Orange City Council and the city’s Economic Development Corporation are set to hire Griffith Moseley Johnson and Associates to help attract industrial and retail business.
The move comes after the city and corporation decided earlier to not contribute the city’s $25,000 share to the Orange County Economic Development Corporation.
After Orange’s decision, other entities, including Orange County and the Port of Orange decided not to fund the county economic development corporation for 2016. The county corporation will end October 1 when a new budget year starts.
The city of Orange is the only city in the county with its own economic development corporation and budget. The corporation is funded by a special half-cent per dollar sales tax voters approved.
Griffith Moseley Johnson and Associates is based in Port Arthur. The proposed Orange contract will pay the firm $200 an hour for services. In addition, the firm will be reimbursed for expenses used to travel outside a 60 mile radius of its office.
The Orange Economic Development board of directors meets at 8:30 Tuesday morning and the city council will meet at 9.
