Orange’s new splash pad in Navy Park is now under construction and should be ready for play for next summer. The city received a building permit for the $58,500 splash pad in October. Federal community development block grants designated for low-income neighborhoods are being used to pay for the splash pad.
October building permits included three new houses$90,000 being built by James Turner Construction. The houses are part of a federal hurricane recovery program to help low-income homeowners whose houses were destroyed in hurricanes. The new houses are being built on Huntsman Street, Orange Avenue and Schley Avenue.
Next to the houses, the most expensive project getting permitted in October was for St. Francis Catholic Church on Meeks Drive. The church is getting a new portico costing $78,344.
The Stark Foundation took out a permit for $24,000 worth of concrete work by SpawGlass at the Lutcher Theater. In addition, a business at 1812 16th Street got a permit for a $2,500 parking area.
A house in the 900 block of Cypress Avenue in the Old Orange Historic District is getting a new garage valued at $43,500. In addition, another residential carport was permitted for $1,000.
The Orange Housing Authority is putting in irrigation systems at two of the new complexes under construction. Each system is valued at $25,000 for a total of $50,000. The new complexes are being built for Velma Jeter Apartments on Allie Payne Road and on Park Avenue at the former Pine Grove complex.
Residents on Bent Water are getting a $55,500 swimming pool installed by Tall Man Pools.
One commercial mechanical permit was issued for a $6,700 HVAC system at the Wilson Warehouse. Ten permits were issued for residential mechanical for a total of $43,400.
