Another robbery early Sunday morning at a motel was foiled by a quick-thinking clerk. Police report that a white man with a kitchen knife went to rob the Executive Inn about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The motel is on 27th Street off Interstate 10. Officer Isaac Henry said the clerk locked himself in a secondary office which had a back door. He left and knocked on the door of a customer who called police. When officers arrived, the would-be robber had left empty-handed.

Two separate sexual assault cases involving three children were reported to Orange police during the weekend. The first call was Saturday night to a house in a neighborhood east of 16th Street. The mother called police after noticing signs of a sexual assault while she was bathing her two youngest children. Officer Byrun Perry reported the children were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for examinations. On Monday, Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said the assaults likely occurred in Port Arthur and the case will be transferred.
On Sunday afternoon, a resident in the apartments at 610 W. Burton Avenue called police after suspecting that a 7-year-old had possibly been sexually assaulted by a teenager, according to Officer D.Y. Meyers. The investigation is continuing.

A 51-year-old man is accusing his girlfriend trying to run him over with a black Chevrolet Suburban. Officer Patrick McDonald completed an accident form saying police went to the 1400 block of Burton Avenue at 1:12 a.m. Saturday. The man told the officer he and his girlfriend were arguing and he was walking away. The girlfriend then tried to run over him in the SUV. He said he jumped out of the way but was slightly hit. He was taken by Acadian Ambulance to Baptist Hospital Emergency Room for minor injuries. No charges have been filed.

A man in Orange had bad luck during the weekend. He discovered Saturday that a man he allowed to use his home bathroom stole $1,600 from his credit union account. Then on Sunday, when the man confronted the thief, he was hit in the head with a tire iron. Officer C.J. Foreman reported the man went to the police station about 6:30 p.m. to report the theft. The man, who lives on Texas Street in the Cove neighborhood, said he was about to go to work on Thursday when a man he knew from high school came by the house. Though he hadn’t seen the man in a long time, he let the man use the bathroom. On Saturday, the man discovered that two withdrawals, one for $1,000 and the other for $600, were made from his account. He checked his wallet and discovered his driver’s license was missing.
On Sunday at 12:30 p.m., police were called to an aggravated assault at the man’s house on Texas Street. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said the victim confronted the other man, and the other man “bopped him on the head with a tire iron.” The suspected assailant and thief was gone by time police arrived.
