Bridge City could be getting a skilled nursing home in the near future. Jeff Rhodes the president of the Rhoman Group spoke to the City Council in Bridge City this week. Rhodes said his group is applying to the state for permission to build a 100-bed facility in Orange County.
The Rhoman Group has applied for construction of the nursing home in Orange County. Rhodes admitted the application would allow construction anywhere in the county, but their corporate studies showed logistics and everything led back to Bridge City as the preferred site for the nursing home. The facility would cost about nine to twelve million dollars to construct and occupy a six to seven acre plot according to Rhodes. He requested the City Council and interested Bridge City citizens to write letters of their support to the state for his company’s application, adding that 20 to 30 letters would be very helpful.
City Manager Jerry Jones believes a new nursing home facility in Bridge City would be outstanding for the city. A $9 million plus construction project would be a boost to the city’s economy. The new nursing home would serve citizens that need such a facility, and many of the nursing home staff would probably live in Bridge City which means they would pay taxes and spend their money in the city. Jones exclaimed, “It’s a win, win situation for us.” The city manager indicates he knows of three or four sites in Bridge City that would be appropriate for the facility which he will pass on to the Rhoman Group when their application is approved.
