A 62-year-old man who jumped off the Interstate 10 Sabine River Bridge earlier this afternoon was rescued safely from the river. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies with a boat picked up the man. The Orange Fire Department also launched its boat to the scene.
Police were called to the bridge about 2:20 p.m. Captain Keith Longlois said witnesses saw the Houston resident get out of his vehicle and jump. The boats were launched carrying law enforcement officers and medical personnel from Acadian Ambulance.
The boats arrived about 2:40 p.m. and removed the man from the water. He was taken to a waiting ambulance that was parked near the river bank underneath the bridge. Acadian took him to a regional hospital.
Captain Longlois said that at this time, his injuries are not known, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
